Our Mission
Every community deserves to see itself in history. For too long, LGBTQ+ people in Newham have been invisible in the official record. Footprints of Love exists to change that – permanently.
What We Believe
Every story matters. Whether you were an activist on the front lines or someone who quietly lived your truth, your experience is part of our shared heritage. There is no hierarchy of importance. The personal is historical.
Community ownership is essential. This isn’t a project done to the community – it’s one built with and by the community. The archive belongs to all of us.
Heritage should be living, not frozen. An archive that stops growing is a memorial. We’re building something different: a living collection that can expand forever.
What We’re Creating
30 filmed oral histories: first-person accounts preserved forever
A feature documentary: a cinematic portrait of Newham’s queer heritage
A permanent collection: housed at Newham Heritage Centre
Walking tours and events: bringing history to life on the streets where it happened
A digital archive: accessible online, always growing
